7 Tips to Decorate an Entryway Table

Create a magazine worthy entryway table with these 7 no fail decorating tips

Do you ever look around and think, hmm I really liked that piece of furniture when I bought it but its not really my style anymore…

That was me with our entryway table this week, there is nothing wrong with it, its actually super cute but its not quite the style of my home anymore.

Decorating Entryway Tables

So I posted it for sale on Facebook Market Place & while I was there I saw this really pretty scalloped edge wood console table for sale for $20!

It needed a little TLC but I am in love with how it turned out.

The only thing left to do was style it and since I know decorating certain areas can be a little tricky I figured now was the perfect time to share my favorite tips for decorating an entryway table!

Decorating Entryway Tables

1. Let There Be Light

7 Tips to Decorate an Entryway Table

The first thing I add to a console table is some kind of light.

There is no outlet on this wall though so I had to use this faux lamp I diy-ed last year.

It works with a puck light and remote so that I can still have light in this area without having to run any wires!

You can find all my favorite no wire lighting hacks here

2. Add a Little Life

7 Tips to Decorate an Entryway Table

This tip is good for when you are decorating any room or space, add a little life.

Greenery makes a space feel lively and is also a great way to add a little color to your entryway.

This tall vase and faux stems also visually balance the console table since on the other side is my tall lamp.

Sometimes I rotate in real flowers but usually keeping our toddler alive is enough pressure for me (if you know you know).

Here are my tricks for making faux greenery and flowers look real

3. Keep It Functional

7 Tips to Decorate an Entryway Table

An entryway table at least for us needs to be functional not just pretty.

It is where we drop off our keys, wallets, sometimes mail since it’s right by the front door.

To keep everything collected and not scattered I like to place a pretty box or decorative bowl to hold all the things.

If it can double as storage and decor it’s a win win!

4. Personalize the Console Table

Since it’s usually the first thing people see when they walk into your home it should say something about you right?

Add your personal character to it with framed photographs or artwork.

I found this winter print at Photowall but I have a ton of free printable artwork in our VIP gallery for you to easily print!

Spray paint old frames or pick some up at the thrift store for an almost free way to add character and charm to your entry way.

5. Scented Additions

Every home has a smell, it’s true… I like for ours to be clean smelling (or at least fake clean with the help of a scented candle).

The entryway table is the perfect place to set a yummy smelling candle, diffuser, or potpourri.

This way when guests walk into our home they are immediately greeted with a nice smell, plus there is nothing cozier than the glow of candlelight.

During Christmas time I like to set a pretty bowl out filled with those cinnamon pinecones, I don’t know why we limit those to Christmas, that smell is amazing and really should be used all year!

6. Grab and Go Storage

There is no better place than by an entryway table for those grab and go items.

I like to keep a big basket by the entry table for umbrellas, a car blanket, and rain boots.

The items you need as you are walking out the door but don’t want to have to chase down.

They always get returned too because it’s so simple to just throw them back in the basket on the way in!

I like to use a metal basket or something made out of plastic so that if the umbrella is still wet it doesn’t get all mildewy, worst smell ever.

7. Add Dimension and Character

Finally time for the not so practical additions, the strictly decor pieces.

These are the pieces that serve no other purpose but to add interest and character to the entryway.

They also help balance the space visually and make it extra appealing!

Some of my favorite things to use are old books to add height to other objects, ornate candle holders, small bowls.

On our entryway table I placed these old furniture legs to add some wood tones to the space.

Choose items that add a little texture or color too.

You can never go wrong with a well placed basket holding throw pillows or blankets (am I right or am I right).

Those are just a few of my favorite tips for decorating a well styled and functional entryway table.

Whenever I feel lost decorating an area I think about what I actually need the space to do.

I also like to shop my home and gather a bunch of items I think I want to use in the space and then just play with the configuration until it feels right.

The most important thing to remember is that it’s your home and if it feels right to you than it is!

Decorate however and with whatever makes your heart happy, it is your home after all.
